Utilizing Guerilla Marketing in Reaching Millennials on Campus

There are many ways to reach college students and millennials on college campuses. If done correctly and tactfully, there can be avenues to utilize and reach this demographic without violating marketing rules on campus but saving ad dollars in the process.

Marketing to college students on campus is a practice many brands and companies are investing ad dollars. There are numerous ways to reach students whether it be OOH options, experiential ambassador campaigns, digital, social media and others. Depending on the medium and scope, how many campuses a marketer may be looking to target, the cost for these types of efforts can get high rather quickly.

A way around this budget increase is Guerrilla marketing and there a few ways to go about this approach without violating campus advertising rules and putting the reputation of your brand in jeopardy. Here are a few ways to reach college students if your budget is a little thin:

  • Posters: Print out some 8.5” x 11” flyers from a low budget printer and have a solutions partner utilize their network and have them posted in high traffic areas on campus and posting boards in prime spots. Typically these types of boards and boards located on outside kiosks have the most lax rules for posting.
  • Handouts: Ambassador engagement do not have to always have the bells and whistles such as branded tents, t-shirts and free swag giveaways, aligned with the solutions partner, we can have a simple network of students up, running and handing out collateral on behalf of your brand at an economical cost.
  • Dorm Room Marketing: Reaching students in the dorms is a highly effective way to get your message into the hands of college students. Rather than printing and designing an actual door hanger, use a 4” x 6” postcard and the partner to get you set up with a student network that can you into the dorms and deliver your message.
